What is a CSA?

Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is a model that connects farmers and eaters – offering you the freshest seasonal food possible, while sharing the risks and rewards of farming among CSA members. Shareholders receive a weekly box, which varies in size and variety depending on the season, weather, and pests. This model helps make farming more sustainable because it creates stronger linkages in the community, encourages people to eat seasonally, and helps to create a more vibrant local food economy. It also provides farmers with a much-needed influx of cash in spring, when we are spending lots of time and money putting crops in the ground that won’t be sold until the summer. CSAs are well suited to people who like to try new things, learn more about farming, eat seasonally, and love to cook!

Frequently Asked Questions...

What if I can't pick up my box?

If you provide a minimum of 2 weeks notice we can switch the pickup week (double up one week, or extend your CSA by one week) for a maximum of TWO of your weekly boxes. You can also send a friend or family member to pick up your box on your behalf. We will donate any boxes that haven’t been picked up by Saturday at 3pm to a local charity.

What's in the box?

Your box will vary week to week, depending on the season. Full Size and half Shares usually contain approximately 5-8 kinds of veggies. This will usually mean some type of salad greens, some root veggies, plus herbs, other seasonal vegetables, and the odd fruit. Salad Boxes will have about a pound of greens (head lettuce, baby lettuce mixes, spinach, arugula, spicy mix, etc.) plus micro greens/shoots and a few salad toppers. No matter which CSA box you choose, expect to find some cool varieties, colours and shapes in your box– we like unique and beautiful vegetables! Find a list of what we grow hereAlthough we are not certified organic (because we garden on borrowed land) we follow organic practices and do not use chemicals or pesticides - find out more about our farming philosophy here

Do you offer substitutions?

Too much Zucchini, don't like Radicchio? Cilantro taste like soap to you? No problem, this year we are offering a drop one, swap one program, which means more of your favorites and less of the 'What do I do with this' vegetable in the box. You will be allowed to switch out one of your items with whatever is available at our market or farm stand that day.

Do you offer half shares?

This year we are pleased to offer 3 share options: Full Shares (wider variety of veggies, feeds 2-4) , Half Shares (less frequent, but same size) and Salad Boxes (salad focused box with seasonal add-ons).

Do you offer add-ons?

Nope, not any more. We found that with our pick up locations being at the market, we would rather refer you to our friends and neighbors so they can get you the best products available.

How can I get involved?

There is no work requirement for the CSA, but we love drop ins and farm tours - stay tuned to our website for more details on how to get involved and sign up for our newsletter for seasonal updates!
